Which Corporate Player Are You?
Entertainment industry and the world of art consists of the art and the artists. Different artists have different quality. One artist can be the overthinker, while other can be the visionary. Another artist can be the maverick. The corporate world makes one rise the ladder in the society and play an important role in the success of the company one works in. However, it is very rare that a parallel would be drawn between the corporate players and the artists. Corporate players are sloggers working day in day out for the success of their company and themselves. On the other hand, artists relish an opportunity to create something unique for the passion and enigma they could create with their work.
Being a bit contentious, I will go on to define the different type of corporate players and each one of you will be able to resonate with a type.
1. Visionary: This person in the corporate atmosphere puts a vision for everything (even if it’s minuscule) and drafts roadmaps and plans to achieve it. This player in the corporate world plans for everything 5 years ahead and often tends to miss out on short term wins at expense of getting a big win in the longer run. This person will not push back but will end up building long terms plans while short term plans will not be of utmost importance.
2. The “Yes” Player: This player typically has can do attitude and never says no to any task. He/She will agree to whatever task is to be done without any guarantee of completion. Such players are filled up in the corporate world. Owing to the failure of spreading disappointment they will always say a “YES”.
3. The Robot: This player is a robot who is unaffected by the environment of the office. They typically love their work and do it in a very structured manner yielding high quality results. They will go about their task like it is work and lead on with their lives outside the office. People may find the player very unamusing, but this person will be delivering the best results.
4. The Networker: This player lives in the unreal assumption that knowing more people translates into faster growth and getting work done. This person talks or tries to communicate with every person around and stick out their neck even outside the purview of the corporate environment. Such players also rise fast up the ladder till they reach an inflection point.
5. The “It’s Urgent” Player: This player does not understand the gravity of any task and attributes every work to be urgent and delivered with urgency. Such a player is more concerned on quantity rather than quality of the deliverable.
There can be more form of players in the corporate world, but it is evident that the corporate realm consists of artists as well plying their trade. All these different types of players exist within each of us. Now, the bigger question is which player are you?
