The Centennial Journey
Over the past 99 articles/blogs, I have tried to share my unbiased perspectives on varied topics from sports, business, philosophy, politics, and technology and tried to impart quick knowledge to everyone who came across these posts. As we start the 10th month of October, I will be sharing another one of my articles, but it will be coming up with a twist as this marks the 100th article which will truly capture the journey of 0 to 100 and how a mere hobby became a habit. Yes, that’s right.
This is the centennial journey of my life on Medium as a blogger.
What triggered it?
A simple inquisitiveness into the Russia-Ukraine conflict coupled with lack of unbiased opinion at the outset of the war caused me to dig deep and start sharing opinion with a clear mandate. Be unbiased and express what’s right. With an article which had differing opinion and perspectives, I knew that this was not worth sharing on professional networks like LinkedIn, but Medium was a proponent of free speech in true essence and this was the start of my journey by expressing my simple views on the Russia-Ukraine War.
Was there an ulterior motive behind it?
The harsh reality of life is that every action we take has an ulterior motive behind it. It can be an unknown or a known objective but that is the critical driver for any action of ours. I had a personal objective as well with starting to write something on Medium. Common parlance would say is to reach out to more people or become an influencer. I was quite the opposite. My sole objective was to keep myself abreast on as many topics as possible happening around the world and be fearless in expressing my opinion without the thought of what the others would say. All I wanted to do was give myself an opportunity to from views on everything and pen it down week by week in this busy and fast paced world.
How did I end up with a 100 in 20 months?
The journey started way back on 4th February 2022 and 20 months later, I am sitting with a collection of 100 articles (including this one). The initial craze of writing something without any fear was very exciting and it kept me motivated for up to 10 articles. The journey from 10–100 articles was all about the following.
1. Escalation to commitment: Any task or hobby you take up requires a certain level of escalation to commitment. The process of writing articles demanded a certain level of commitment which pushed me to continue writing as it was serving my objective very well.
2. Constant need to improve: With each article, I have evolved in my writing style, my perspectives and ability to form unbiased views. As time progressed, I could observe how penning down such articles was making me more confident and self-aware which again served me well.
3. Ability to dig new information: Writing week on week is something journalists are masters of. For common people like us, the process and ability to find new information can be quite tiresome. The opportunity to write a new article every week enabled me to learn something new and dig deeper on the repercussions of each action that a sports team, technology magnate or politician may be taking.
My 3 favorite articles (yes, some self-praise)
At such a milestone, some self-praise is warranted. I am sharing 3 of my favorite hand-picked articles which captured my attention
- Invasion & Wars: An Excuse for Establishing World Dominance— This captures the start of my journey but also reflects the state of war the world was in 20 months back. Things are improving now but this was an initiation fo sorts for me in this literary world.
2. The Upheaval: Twitter’s Solution to Social Media Domination— Social media undergoes rapid changes and Twitter was a torchbearer to it since the introduction of Elon Musk to Twitter/X and how it has constantly being trying to up its game. In parallel, it was also the start of the massive layoff which gave an indication of “Lean is the way” to all corporate behemoths.
3. The Art of “Being Boring”- Picking up a routine or doing anything repeatedly can be boring and seen in aghast by the society. This article perfectly captures why boring is the new sexy.
What’s next?
The upcoming set of articles will be soon even more domain specific with each month comprising of articles limited to 1 domain like sports for October, Politics for November (just some examples). The compilation of 4 articles in a month within the same domain will help us reflect how things change rapidly even in 4 weeks.
My key reflection from this centennial list of articles.
Be unbiased, Be boring, Be diligent but last, but last but not least, just have fun what you are doing without always worrying about the result.
