Olympics 2024: Same Old Story or a New India?

Paris 2024 Olympics are here, and the sporting extravaganza is going to capture the imagination of the world over the next few weeks as the top athletes from across the world vie for the coveted gold medal and records in the Olympics for their country. Olympics is one event which makes legends and defines the reign of a champion. Usain Bolt and Michale Phelps have built their legacy in the Olympics and continue to be the most revered athletes. The Olympics are so diverse that there is a Refugee Olympic team as well which participates in the events. On India’s front, Abhinav Bindra, PV Sindhu, and Neeraj Chopra are few of the stars who shot to fame with their exemplary performance in the Olympics.

For India, Olympics has always been a dismal story despite having performed well in the past 2 Olympics by their own standards. They are nowhere near the might of China and USA, but they have tarted excelling in certain fields where India could be a force to be reckoned with. The irony is that there are multiple events which hosts of Indian world champions, but cometh the hour and they lose the focus and will to drive glory for their country. India may well be on the course of a similar story like previous Olympics with a small haul of medals, but there are some events where a medal is expected out of the Indian contingent.
