AI in Politics — A big NO please!

Politics is something that brings the high and mighty leaders close to the public. It makes them work hard for securing a seat for the next 4–5 years. The political leaders and parties know that ignorance of the public will be doomsday for them. That is the beauty of elections and the political process where every political party tries their best to garner votes by serving the interests of the common citizens.

Enter AI(Artificial Intelligence) and the whole scenario of politics could soon change from connecting with people to leverage AI most effectively. The power of AI to generate images, videos, audios and texts by means of being trained is fascinating but also dangerous for the political process. It can lead to misinformation being spread via data fed to AI to generate fabricated videos and then misguiding the public. I generally come with a set of pros and cons for every usage of AI, but in politics it is a big NO from my side.

AI can simplify disbursement of information, but the veracity of information will be a big concern. This fear is not theoretical but has been observed already in elections across the world.

Argentina, Slovakia, Russia, and New Hampshire (USA) have been victims of AI where fabricated videos, fake news and misguided information has been spread by political parties by leveraging AI. This, in turn, has led to…
