A saffron sweep in the Capital

2025 had been silent with elections. With the dust settling in after President Trump’s inauguration, there was a lull in the political landscape and more so in India where there is some or the other assembly election being held in the state. The month of February came back with a bang as the all-important Delhi State elections were held. Delhi is one of the Union Territories which has not been under the BJP rule or Congress rule for the past decade. The emergence of Arvin Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its pro people policies had made it a giant in the Delhi elections. However, the elections this year were not meant to act as a third time charm as AAP resigned to an embarrassing defeat with BJP winning an overwhelming majority while Congress drew a blank slate yet again.

While this was not a surprising result, it is tough to fathom the downfall of a party which had won 62 and 67 out of 70 seats in the previous 2 elections. So, what really caused the fortune reversal and a saffron sweep this time around when the public of Delhi was a fan of AAP politics.

1. AAP leaders in jail: Two major leaders of AAP, Manish Sisodia and Arvin Kejriwal were arrested and put in jail for corruption.
